Martin Seligman, a man considered the “founding father of positive psychology” writes in his book The Optimistic Child:
"The premium that we put on feeling good is peculiarly modern. Aristotle had a timeless view: Happiness is not an emotion that can be separated from what we do. Happiness is like grace in a dance, not something the dancer feels at the end of a good dance, but an inalienable accompaniment of a dance well done. Happiness is not a separable feeling-state that can be obtained in any other way save as part and parcel of right action"
Many studies show that people are happier when they partake in hobbies or sports. To contrast this, Seligman also points out in one of his subsequent books that many studies have been done on TV- watching adults, and it has been found that the average mood while watching a sitcom is mild depression.
If we feel better when we actually get up and DO things, then why do we often pick the easier, less satisfying leisure option to make ourselves feel good?
What do you think? Are we too tired? Have we simply developed bad habits? Is 'screen' based entertainment completely to blame?

In my opinion , one should be
In my opinion , one should be accountable to his/her actions. It takes a discipline to makes his/her life enjoyable and satisfying. Watching tv is not a bad habit when it is practice in a good way. It only becomes bad habit when we are too much indulge to it. Having leisure time is not only focuses on watching tv like what you have said we can partake our selves to other that makes us live and energetic.
I can understand why one
I can understand why one would feel "mild depression" at watching sitcoms. I don't watch them because I have better things to do, so yeah, I'd be depressed if I didn't! When people are partaking in hobbies and sports, there is a mind-body connection. The mind and body are not alienated from each other as they are actively working together. The other thing to consider, particularly in sitcoms, is that people are having all these unique situations and interactions with other people. You're at home sitting in front of a glass tube.
Why do we feel better when we
Why do we feel better when we do things? Is it because of a physiological change, that then changes mood? I disagree that I am mildly depressed when I watch a sitcom! If I laugh while watching it, doesn't the act of laughing change my mood? I'm happy partaking in my hobby of reading and my body certainly isn't moving. So I would like to see more studies done on this.

Leisure time is a great chance to relax and spend time with friends and family. However, that down time can throw you off the hard ridden track to success. Instead of completely relaxing, try going out for a jog, bike ride, or even a brisk power walk. Take the opportunity to get outside instead of sitting down in front of the television. Making the conscious effort to get in that exercise can help remind you of those goals you want to attain.
